Suspect caught wearing stolen jacket after business robbery in Joburg Central

JOBURG CENTRAL – Police believe the suspect was among the five men who robbed the store on Sunday.

A clothing store at the corner of Commissioner and Von Weilligh streets was robbed by five perpetrators on Sunday, 15 March.

Johannesburg Central Police Station spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, said, “The [suspects] were armed with firearms and knives. They took an undisclosed amount of money from the tills and also robbed customers of their cellphones.”

The suspects also stole two jackets from the clothing store.

One suspect, who is believed to have been among the five perpetrators, was arrested the following day (16 March) by local police. The suspect was wearing one of the stolen jackets, Mbele added.

Police are on the hunt for the four remaining suspects and are still investigating. The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
