Construction project well under way at the Orchards Clinic
ORANGE GROVE – JAD has not yet furnished the publication with the updated report of the project.
The much-awaited building project of the infamous Orchards Clinic along Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove is well underway with much work happening inside the building.
This was confirmed by Ward 74 councillor David Fisher following months, if not years, of the project delays due to structural problems.
The multimillion-rand state-of-the-art facility was scheduled for completion in 2019 but work was suspended in March 2017 as reported in the North Eastern Tribune, [Week Ending 22 February 2018].
Following an investigation and consulting a specialist engineer, the solution was to strengthen certain elements in the clinic that had been identified as poorly designed.
Since then, the City of Johannesburg, through its entity Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), has had a tough time completing the project with local residents complaining, citing long delays.
The publication has received requests from the locals to probe the latest in the project and according to Fisher, all is now on track.
“There is progress…work is happening at the clinic,” said Fisher.
“You can see scaffolding moving around with contractors putting up the windows. Most of the work is now inside. Currently, I’m not aware of any more challenges on the construction site.”
The councillor has admitted that this was a ‘difficult’ project, adding that it involved technical challenges.
He, however, said the City is working on this project, urging residents in the area to be patient while work is underway now.
He said this is an asset for the City and all entire residents in the Johannesburg north-eastern suburbs.
When contacted, the spokesperson for JDA, Susan Munyai, has not yet responded to all the questions sent to her by North Eastern Tribune in January.
“We are still consulting with the project manager of the project and we will respond as soon as those details are made available to us,” she replied in a follow-up text message earlier in February.
