Johannesburg Flying Squad police arrest 19 suspects

JOHANNESBURG – Working together with the community led to these arrests.


About 19 suspects were arrested between 21 and 24 February by the Johannesburg Flying Squad police units in various locations.

A spokesperson for the unit, senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo, said they recovered vehicles (reported stolen and/or hijacked) as well as a 9mm Beretta with numbers filed off during the arrests. “Amongst the 19 suspects arrested, three were for possession of stolen vehicles, one for possession of a hijacked vehicle and 15 for possession of drugs,” said Sambo.

“Out of the vehicles recovered is a burgundy BMW M3, a white Toyota Quantum, a red Toyota Hi-Ace and a black Mini Cooper that was hijacked. Investigation continues in all cases.”

He added that the police appreciates the public’ contribution as working together with the community led to these recoveries.

He also urged that anyone who might have information regarding the vehicles should contact the police with a case number.

All the suspects are expected to appear in different magistrate’s courts soon facing different charges.
