Couple’s bodies found in a pool of blood at their home in Melrose

MELROSE – A written note saying 'I'm Sorry' was recovered by the police.

Norwood police are investigating a case of murder/suicide after a man and his live-in partner were found dead in their home on 26 January in Melrose on Somerville Avenue.

It is not clear what had happened but the police report that the couple was found lying dead on the floor with a firearm next to the man’s body.

According to the spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha, a suicide note was also recovered at the scene.

Masotsha said their police officers, who were on patrol on the day, received a complaint via their network radio and attended to the scene.

“On arrival, they found a security guard who then led them to an apartment where a female body, as well as that of her partner, were found lying dead on the kitchen’s floor with lots of blood around them,” said Masotsha.

“They both had bullet wounds with blood coming from their heads. A firearm was found lying under the left leg of the husband.’

The deceased were later identified by a neighbour who promised she will help police to trace both their next of kin, added Masotsha.

The motive still remains unknown; only a written note which was on top of the fridge saying, ‘I’m Sorry’.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have any domestic disputes cases which have been reported on our domestic violence registers from either one of them,” he said.
