Police to investigate scrapyard owner after suspects confessed of selling goods to his shop

BRAMLEY– Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi said the four suspects confessed to the crime and were arrested for stealing.

The owner of a local scrap metal yard will have to answer critical questions from the police after four suspects confessed to stealing and selling steel scaffolding to the scrap metal dealer.

This after Bramley police arrested four suspects after they were caught red-handed stealing scaffolding components in Kew on 2 January.

The four male suspects were caught by the police stealing and loading the scaffolding onto a bakkie that belongs to one of the scaffolding companies operating in the area.

Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi said the four suspects confessed to the crime and were arrested for stealing.

“At about 3pm on 2 January 2020, the patrolling [police] members from Sector 1 and 2 spotted a bakkie of one of the companies dealing in scaffolding work. The four men were busy loading the scaffolding components onto the bakkie. When police questioned the suspects, they told police that they have been stealing the goods and selling them to the scrap metal dealer in the area.

“The four suspects aged between 31 and 42 were then arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station and the stolen goods were then seized and returned to the lawful owner. The other suspect will face an additional charge of using a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.”

Mogodi added that the police were still looking for the owner of the scrap metal yard for questioning after tons of steel were found on the premises.
