The City welcomes 1 085 new JMPD officers
JOBURG – The trainees officially became Metro Police officers after they took their oath of office on 25 November.
The City of Johannesburg welcomed 1 085 new recruits on 25 November into the Metro police.
This was the biggest single recruitment of Metro police officers in South Africa.
Former mayor Herman Mashaba said they were happy to see more than 1 000 recruits graduating and taking an oath to serve and protect residents of Johannesburg.
Mashaba was joined by Metro police chief David Tembe during the graduation. Tembe said he was intending to deploy most of the officers in the inner-city ‘because that is where most of the criminal activity is occurring’.
MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun added that the recruitment would see criminals being squeezed out of the city.
