Norwood Sector one CPF to be elected

NORWOOD – Residents from Norwood Sector 1 Community Policing Forum (CPF) areas are encouraged to attend the meeting in which the executive committee will be elected.

Ward 74 councilor Dave Fisher has appealed to residents in the suburbs under the Sector 1 Norwood policing precinct to attend an upcoming CPF meeting.

This follows the first meeting which was held at Africa Pride Hotel in Melrose Arch on Thursday 26 July.

Some of the residents were nominated to formulate the committee which will ensure that CPF is functional and transparent. Those nominated will have to be elected during the meeting which will be held on Wednesday, 31 July at the same venue at 6pm.

Areas in the Norwood Sector 1 policing precinct include Houghton Estate, Melrose, Melrose North, Melrose Estate, Melrose Bird Sanctuary, James and Ethel Gray Park, Houghton Golf Course, Birdhaven and Birnam.

Fisher said he has always encouraged residents to be actively involved in their communities and formulate a good, working relationship with the police.

“Residents’ interaction with the authorities will influence and improve the level of service we get from the police,” he said.

He indicated that it would also encourage police to work closely with the residents.

Thabo Thipe from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety told residents that the area did not have a sector forum for a long time. “Our job is to make sure that we have functional CPFs within the Gauteng province and we are encouraging residents to be part of these meetings,” he said.
