Two alleged drug dealers were arrested by the Johannesburg police while their friend was arrested later for trying to bribe the police to release them.
This according to the Johannesburg Central Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele saying the incident happened on 9 July. Police were busy with their routine crime-prevention duties when they received a tip off from a community member about a suspect dealing in drugs at Ghandi Square.
The officers responded and arrested the suspect who was sitting inside a silver Ford Figo, said Mbele.
“While searching the car, police recovered small plastic bags containing drugs and a cash amount of about R1 500 under the passenger seat.
“The suspect took the police to Fashion Lofts Flats on the corner of Delvers and Pritchard streets. In his room they found his roommate and several other small plastic bags containing drugs and two measuring scales were confiscated. He was also arrested for dealing in drugs.”
Their friend came to the station later with about R10 000 allegedly trying to bribe the police to release his friends.
Mbele said he was also arrested and charged for bribery.
The suspects will all appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
Mbele commended the working relationship between the police and the community and further encourages the community to continue notifying the police about crime.
