Although the match against China was a damp squib, the crowds that attended were kept on their feet each time the girls had the ball and plotted their moves that never went far. Talented winger and ace goal poacher Thembi Kgatlana gave the viewers a glimpse of hope when she made a foray into China’s penalty box but good defending stopped her in her tracks.

Although Banyana lost the match by a solitary goal, many cheerful ‘Norwoodians’ braved the chilly evening to give support to the women of the beautiful game.
