Men sought by police for setting trucks alight in City Deep

CITY DEEP – The police estimate that the damage of the trucks could be at least R6 million.

Jeppe police are appealing to the community for information that can assist with the arrest of suspects who burnt down trucks at City Deep on 28 May.

It is alleged that two drivers were inside their parked trucks at Kings Rest Container Depo when they saw about five men approaching the trucks.

According to the spokesperson for the Jeppe police Captain Richard Munyayi, the wanted men were carrying containers and sticks, began shouting and poured petrol all over the trucks.

“The two men [drivers] said they jumped out of their trucks and ran away,” report Munyayi.

“The suspects set the trucks alight and ran away. Seven trucks, a Scania, three Man trucks, a Mercedes Benz and two Volvos were burnt down.”

It is believed that some of the trucks belong to SKR freight in Durban and Fransend Logistics in Benoni, added Munyayi.

The police estimate that the damage of the trucks could be at least R6 million.

A case of malicious damage to property has been opened with the Jeppe police and they are appealing to anyone who might have information to contact them.
