Residents encouraged to participate in CPF meeting

ORCHARDS – The meeting was supposed to have been held on 27 March but will now be held on 17 April.

Residents in Sector 3 Norwood policing precinct are invited to a community policing forum’s meeting at St Lukes Church in Orchards.

Initially, the meeting was scheduled for 27 March but it has since been postponed to 17 April and residents are urged to attend.

The meeting is expected to address issues and a new committee is expected to be nominated.

Ward 74 councillor, David Fisher, said it is important for residents to participate. “They need to attend so that they can play their part in the campaign to fight crime in the area,” said Fisher.

“It doesn’t help for people not to participate because crime affects us all and this is a chance for them to also play their part and help fight the scourge of crime in the suburbs.”

The forum’s public relations officer, Mbali Langeni, said they call on the residents, including business owners, to attend. Langeni said the sector include residents in Orchards, Norwood, Oaklands, Cheltondale, The Gardens and Maryvale.

“Those who will be elected will serve as eyes and ears in their areas and help the police and CPF by reporting crime in their suburbs,” she said.

“They will also work on various crime prevention campaigns including drugs and women and child abuse campaigns in their suburbs. For one to be elected one need to be at the launch with their identity card so that they can go through a vetting process by the police.”
