Greenberg encourages residents to support monthly clean-up campaign

SYDENHAM – This is to encourage residents to participate as a means of helping to keep their wards clean.

Ward 72 councillor Lionel Greenberg is encouraging residents in the Johannesburg north-eastern suburbs to participate in the monthly clean-up campaign.

The campaign, popularly known as A Re Sebetseng meaning Let’s Work Together, aims to encourage communities to work together to build a cleaner city and generally takes place every third weekend of the month.

Greenberg said ward councillors from wards 72, 73 and 74 encourage residents to participate on a monthly basis as a means of helping to keep their wards clean.

“We encourage residents to join in, working with volunteers to keep our wards in pristine condition because a clean suburb improves the value and pride in the ward,” said Greenberg.

“The City’s mayor [and] councillors would like to encourage our respective residents with the help of your friends and neighbours, ‘Together, making the city clean’. This is what A Re Sebetseng strives to achieve.”

In March, Greenberg said Ward 72 cleaned up the Kinfauns Street substation adding that some residents are so taken by the idea.

He said suburbs like Killarney and Houghton have taken it upon themselves to maintain and manage their suburbs at their own cost.

“We extend our gratitude to the associations who have taken the initiative to keep their suburbs pristine.

“Should you wish to volunteer [and we encourage you], we’re working every third weekend of the month in the ward,” he said.

Those who are interested can find the monthly date and location on their ward newsletter, websites or visit www.aresebetseng.co.za.

He said for Region E volunteers can contact Phindi Lethoko on Phindil@joburg.org.za who is the Integrated Service Manager who coordinates the monthly schedule.

Associations, residents and interested parties can contact her directly to arrange and advise of clean-ups in your area, he concluded.
