Man found dead outside his residential building in Hillbrow

HILLBROW – It is still unclear if the deceased was shot dead or whether he jumped to his death from the ninth floor of a building, but investigations are continuing.

A man was found dead outside a residential building on Twist Street in Hillbrow in the early hours of Sunday morning, 10 February, however, the details surrounding his death still remain uncertain and the authorities are still investigating.

According to the police, a man was found with an apparent bullet wound on his forehead. However, ER24, whose paramedics responded to the scene, said it seemed that a man had fallen to his death from an upper floor of the nearby building.

A statement issued by ER24 corporate communications officer Werner Vermaak on 10 February read, “A man was killed… when he fell from the ninth floor of a building in Twist Street in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

“Shortly before 1am, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the man lying on the side of the road. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene.”

When contacted on 12 February, Vermaak said the witnesses had told their medical personnel who attended to the scene that the man had fallen from the building.

“Even his injuries were evident that he had fallen from the building. I’m not sure about any bullet wound because I was not there but our team that responded to the incident did indicate that and the police were also on the scene,” he said.

Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, the spokesperson for the Hillbrow Police Station, said, “The only incident that our officers responded to on Twist Street was of a man who was found dead outside a building where he lives with a gun [shot] wound on his forehead.

“It looks as though the man was shot somewhere else because there were no reports of gunshots heard in the area according to our preliminary investigation.”

He added that they were not sure whether the man had been shot somewhere else and dumped there or what happened, but they are investigating a case of murder.

Details: Mduduzi Zondo 082 850 7974.
