Murray and Roberts Running Club to compete in the top SA road runners

JOBURG – Many top local runners are now part of the new Murray and Roberts Running Club.

Excitement demonstrated by some of South Africa’s top road runners was proof enough that the new Murray and Roberts Running Club is here to compete.

The club was launched with a ceremony at the engineering and mining contractor’s offices in Bedfordview on 10 January. This comes after KPMG did not renew the sponsorship of its running club at the end of last year, and Murray and Roberts stepped in to ensure the athletes and the Vorentoe Running Academy in Rossmore, continue running.

Many of South Africa’s top athletes have signed on, making the new club a real contender right out of the blocks.

These include the likes of Rufus Photo, Jenna Challenor, Charne Bosman, Yolande Maclean, Kesa Molotsane, Noelene Conrad, and the Kalmer sisters. “We are the only proudly South African running club that has only South African runners,” said club chairperson, Ed Jardim, who also works for Murray and Roberts.

“You can look out for us in 2019. You can be sure we will be a force to be reckoned with.”

The company’s CEO, Henry Laas, welcomed all in attendance and spoke about how engineering and running each requires the setting and implementation of plans.

Dana Coetzee, who used to be running club manager for KPMG and is now the national manager for Murray and Roberts Running Club, said he and the runners were grateful for the opportunity to compete again, and intend to deliver their ‘best performance yet’.
