Charity organisation calls for donations

FAIRVALE – Impilo children's home cannot survive without the support of the community.

Impilo Child Protection and Adoption Centre in Fairvale Extension is requesting the wider community to assist with donations to sustain their programmes.

The charity organisation works with orphaned, vulnerable and abandoned children from various areas of Gauteng including in the Johannesburg north-eastern suburbs.

Sue Krawitz, director at the centre, said their organisation takes each child through the statutory system to ensure they are placed in permanent family care with their parents, extended families or adopters. She said they also care for vulnerable and at-risk children who are placed in long-term care.

“We are mostly dependent on donations because we do not receive much government funding and, therefore, we need to raise most of our funds,” said Krawitz.

“Our biggest need is financial support. We need money to pay the lights and water, telephones etc and staff. We would also appreciate nappies Nan 1 and 2 and other goods. Donations assist us to provide care and services to our children.

“It is very important and we would not survive if we did not get the support of our communities.”

Besides the donations, the director said they have a volunteer programme in which community members can get involved. She said their volunteers arrange a monthly jumble sale of mostly children’s clothes. The next one is on 4 March at their promises from 9.30am to noon.

“A monthly donation from you and or your company will go a long way to help – all donations are tax deductible. We ensure that we are able to continue to provide services by being very cautious with the funds that we receive and by constantly raising funds so that we can keep our doors open.”

The centre said it is desperate for the community to come forward to support the needy children in the country who do not have families.
