Sandringham CPF serious about fighting crime

SANDRINGHAM – Residents are invited to a CPF security meeting to get their input about crime in the area at 6pm tonight. .

Sandringham Community Policing Forum is ensuring that residents in the east of Joburg are safe by helping the police in the fight against crime.

On 1 September, `forum community patrollers joined Sandringham Police Station in a joint operation targeting various identified crime hotspots.

According to a member of the patrollers team, Kenneth Collett, the operation started from 6pm and ran until 2am the following morning.

“The objective was to ensure a higher visibility over the entire area and foster better community interaction,” said Collett.

“The Department of Community Safety in Gauteng has recently ensured that the forum has received hi-viz jackets with the correct signage and markings showing that the patrollers have been sanctioned by the correct departments.”

During the joint operation, Collett said searches were conducted looking for concealed weapons and drugs.

He said more combined operations will be done in the coming months to ensure better visibility.

Residents in the area are requested to play their part in ensuring the safety in the community and are they are also invited to forum monthly meetings.

“We urge the community to join us at the next Community Police Forum Security Meeting on 4 October at the Lombardy East Methodist Church for more information on this and other initiatives.”

The meeting will discuss various concerning issues including the local police report on crime statistics.
