Through their black-tie gala dinner fundraising event at The Venue in Melrose Arch, Sacred Heart College managed to raise R250 000 in one night.
This was revealed by the college’s spokesperson, Lynn Walker. The money raised will go towards the building of a new state-of-the-art music, arts and sports centre for the college which according to Walker will cost about R5 million.

“The fundraiser was a huge success and the event brought together parents, alumni, artists and the business community,” she said. “The main objective was to get the business community together with the artists and raise funds for our centre.”
At the dinner, head of the college, Colin Northmore, said by investing in the vision of the college it was investing in the future.
Northmore described their vision of building the centre as a fantastic idea because it would cater for all children including their refugee children.
“It is a fantastic idea because it is not only for children from wealthy families but all children including our refugee children,” he said. “This space will allow us to provide proper learning and teaching including sports and arts. It is indeed a great space to celebrate.”
The esteemed dinner was graced by the likes of radio personality Thabo ‘Tbose’ Mokoele as well as other renowned business heavyweights including Standard Bank CEO, Sim Tshabalala.

The dinner was sponsored by the regional radio station, Khaya FM, and jazz maestros Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and Paul Hammer performed at the occasion.
