Public discussion at Holocaust and Genocide Centre in Forest Town

FOREST TOWN – A public discussion will be held alongside the 'Where is Kovno?' exhibition at the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre.

The Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre invites residents to a public discussion alongside the exhibition Where is Kovno? curated by Yda Walt on 25 October.

The discussion is titled South African Jews: Literature and longing for a place to call home and it will examine the way local Jewish writers have imagined their place on the African continent. The discussion will deal with issues such as the Yiddish Diaspora’s descriptions of their Lithuanian beginnings and their refugee status and newfound privilege in Apartheid South Africa.

The discussion will include Marcia Levenson from the University of Witswatersrand’s English department and Cedric Ginsberg from the department of semitics at Unisa and head of the Yiddish Academy of Johannesburg.

The discussion will start at 10am.
