Young man dies in alleged mob justice incident in Lombardy West

SANDRINGHAM - The Sandringham police ask the local community to help them with information about a murder committed in Lombardy West that could be an incident of alleged mob justice.

The Sandringham police are currently investigating the murder of a young man in Lombardy West in a case of alleged mob justice on 1 April.

The spokesperson for the station, Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo, said the young man’s half-naked body was found on Birmingham Road with a tyre around his body. He added that the victim, estimated to be between 19 and 24 years old, was still alive when the police arrived. He was rushed to the nearest medical facility for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

Mamabolo said that according to a local community member the young man was allegedly involved in a house breaking and cellphone robbery earlier in the week, but none of these allegations has been proven.

The young man’s identity is currently unknown and the police are calling on the local community to help with information about any missing persons or knowledge of the victim’s identity.

The Sandringham police are still trying to find his family.
