Lombardy East Bowling Club shines

LOMBARDY EAST – The Lombardy East Bowling Club is on the hunt for new members and invites interested residents to join the sports club.

For the first time in five years, the Lombardy East Bowling Club managed to field two teams in a tournament and both made it into the finals of the Johannesburg Bowling Association (JBA) Trips Championship for ladies.

The teams were headed by Desiree Levin and Charlotte Rousseau, and Levin’s team went on to win the championship.

Tracy Meyeridricks of the club said it had been a dream season. At the championship, the two teams had to win a preliminary sectional round-robin and then go forward to play several knockout rounds, facing a myriad of elite provincial and Proteas players.

“What also made this win such an outstanding occasion was that the triumphant side [Levin’s team] featured a disabled Proteas player, Desiree Levin and a promising young JBA U19 player, Samantha Johnson,” said Meyeridricks.

The club has also managed to enter two teams of eight players in the current JBA Saturday League. The teams play in the Pennant Division and have managed to win this tournament three years in a row, and are presently sitting top in both their sections.

The club’s membership is increasing on a weekly basis, with the hope that they will be able to bring the club back to the strength it was in its heyday. The club boasts well-maintained bowling greens which offer disabled and able-bodied players the chance to exercise, enhance their sporting skills and develop friendships and connections with other bowls players.

The club encourages those who have an interest in bowls and who may or may not have a disability, to contact the club’s management team.
