Torah Academy pupil wins coveted Israel Quiz

LINKSFIELD – Torah Academy pupil shines at the Isreal Quiz competition.

Ellie Joffe, a 15-year-old pupil at Torah Academy Boys’ High School, came second in the 2016 Israel Quiz, which was held at the Edward Nathan Sonnenberg auditorium in Sandton.

This popular quiz was organised by the Israel Centre, together with the South African Zionist Federation.

From the original contestants who participated in the first and second qualifying rounds, 15 finalists reached this last stage. This consisted of three ‘live’ rounds, in front of a full-house audience. Finalists were knocked out in each of the three rounds based on their scores until there were three left.

The participants came from Torah Academy Boy’s High School, King David Linksfield, King David Victory Park and Yeshiva College.

The quiz was extremely well executed and professionally run by Ari Kruger, together with perennial question master Rabbi Dorron Kline, CEO of Telfed Israel.

The questions ranged from reasonably fair to nail-biting rapid-fire questions at which Joffe excelled.

Rabbi Chaikin, principal of Torah Academy said the Israel Centre director, Aviad Sela and staff worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the evening.

“Congratulations are extended to all 15 pupils who managed to study the most comprehensive and very long syllabus, replete with numerous names, dates, times, historical and current facts and photographs. We are extremely proud of Ellie who won an iPhone 6,” said Chaikin.
