New head of detectives at SandringhamPolice Station

SANDRINGHAM – New head of detectives at police station is ready to stop crime in its tracks.

Sandringham Police Station recently welcomed an old face back to the precinct with the appointment of a new head of detectives, Lieutenant-Colonel Primrose Thomas.

Thomas was appointed to the post earlier this month and her new duties involve overseeing the work of all the detectives and detective commanders at the station.

While Thomas is not new to the station, having enjoyed a brief stint there as a branch commander, the long-serving officer has already expressed excitement at being back on her old stomping ground. “When I heard that there was a vacancy at the station, I went for it because I felt I needed to be back here and I was familiar with the cases as well as what was happening in the community.

“It was actually the only post I had applied for, despite encouragement to apply for more than one, and I can honestly say I’m excited to be making positive changes.”

Thomas has had an illustrious career within the South African Police Service, having started in 1988 at the Parys Police Station in the Free State before moving to Parkview Police Station, where she became a detective.

The passionate officer then moved to Yeoville as an investigative officer before being moved to the Child Protection Unit, which she grew to enjoy immensely. “I chose to work in that unit because I enjoy working with children and assisting in resolving cases involving them,” she fondly shared.

While she was with the unit, Thomas then recieved a double promotion, first to Douglasdale Police Station as the group commander for the detectives, and shortly thereafter, to Sandringham Police Station as a branch commander.

The shuffling did not end there and, before long, Thomas moved again, this time to Booysens and then Parys again before being transferred back to Moffat Police Station, where she was stationed until her recent promotion to Sandringham Police Station.

Speaking of the various moves in her long career, Thomas explained that she enjoyed moving around because she loved doing different things and helping people, which she hoped to bring to the station and community. “There’s so much satisfaction in solving cases, and while stopping crime won’t happen overnight, I know me and my team will be able to do something about it and show the police’s presence within the community.”
