City Power cleans up substation

FAIRMOUNT - Following a recent article published in the North Eastern Tribune, week ending 29 January, Burnt substation, a vagrant's home, repair work and maintenance has been done onsite.

When the North Eastern Tribune paid a visit to the substation, situated on the corner of Birt and Durham streets in Fairmount on 26 January, City Power officials and staff were seen in action cleaning up the rubble and doing repairs.

Ward 72 councillor Steven Kruger was also present to ensure the repair work was done correctly and efficiently.

The vagrant, who slept in the substation, was removed from his ‘home’.

The perimeter precast wall on the side adjacent to the parking lot was broken in many places, while the lock on the front gate needed to be replaced as it could not be locked, which was the cause of dumping and vagrants moving into the substation. City Power repaired the lock and the wall and also cleared away the rubble.

Kruger said, “The actual electrical equipment is in a brick structure with a door that, up until recently, has not been locked. Around the building is a large open area, which has become a dumping ground [but is now clean].
