Patient found dead in bath with severe burns at Helen Joseph

JOBURG - According to Times Live, on 25 January, the Gauteng Department of Health said it will probe into the mysterious death of a patient who was found dead in a bathtub with severe burns to the face and body.

Times Live, an online news platform, said the discovery of the 35-year-old deceased woman at Helen Joseph Hospital in Auckland Park was made on 24 January.

The patient had been admitted on 22 January‚ along with a three-month-old baby‚ and according to the hospital’s records, the patient’s diagnosis was heart and renal failure.

The department said the deceased had been seen about 15 minutes prior to the discovery of her body by nursing staff. A statement released indicated that the deceased was found by another patient in a bathtub‚ and immediately called the nurses.

They pulled her out of the hot water, which was less than one-third full, and rushed her to a bed for resuscitation. A doctor was called and initiated resuscitation without success.

A post-mortem will be requested to determine the cause of death‚ and the deceased’s baby will be handed over to the next of kin.

Gauteng health MEC, Qedani Mahlangu said, “Our prayers are with the family of the bereaved during this time of grief. The investigation will help us ascertain what led to the incident.”

The investigation continues.
