Fairmount Soccer Club closed until further investigation

FAIRMOUNT - SOME CLARITY has emerged as to what the situation is at the Serbian (Fairmount soccer grounds) in Fairmount as residents of the area have complained that they have been denied access to the property due to the front gates being locked.

Ward 72 councillor Steven Kruger said, “There have been many complaints over the last few months regarding the condition of the Fairmount Soccer Club, as well as unauthorised use of the property, including noisy parties. Among those issues, there are numerous people living onsite without permission and various concerned people have come forward claiming that alcohol and drug abuse was taking place. Although it is a City Of Johannesburg Community facility, this does not mean that anybody can use the facility at any time they want to and for whatever they want. There need to be measures in place to ensure that activities are authorised and controlled and that the site is properly managed.”

There is currently a private leaseholder of the Fairmount soccer grounds which includes the soccer field, tennis courts and buildings. Upon further investigation by the Johannesburg Property Company, the grounds shall remain closed to the public for use.
