Covid 19:Norwood community adheres to lockdown measures

NORWOOD – Even liquor traders have closed down their stores.

Norwood community members and businesses have been applauded for their compliance during the 21-day national lockdown.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the national lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus on 23 March.

According to the Norwood Police Station, residents in their area of service heeded the president’s call and are complying as requested. “As the police we really want to applaud our community and the businesses in the area for complying with the set rules by our state president,” said Eric Masotsha, the station spokesperson.

“We, as the local police, have also increased our visibility on the streets to ensure that residents remain safe during this time. We have seen even liquor outlets in the area also adhering to the president’s call and closing down their stores as required during the lockdown.”

Masotsha said they conduct two operations on a weekly basis to that law and order is enforced. “The operations are held randomly depending on our plan of the day but we have the operations on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

He said the aim of their operations is not to brutalise residents but to educate them and re-emphasise the need for people to comply with the lockdown’s measures.
