Midrand actor off to USA to further career
MIDRAND - Actor and Midrand resident Simphiwe Matshikwe will be going to Orlando Florida in the hope of catching the eye of talent scouts and movie directors at Applause Rising Talent Arts Showcase in June.
More than 500 people auditioned in October last year at Montecasino and 70 are going to America to attend the convention.
Matshikwe said he has been involved in the entertainment industry as a voice over artist, an infomercial presenter, a presenter and actor. “I have been in the industry for 12 years and have been featured in advertising campaigns including Castle Light, Ariel Soap and many more.”
He explained that he chose acting because he is passionate about it and it needs time and patience to master as a craft. Matshikwe stated that South Africa has many opportunities for actors, however one must not wait for the opportunity, but write and also look to produce their work for TV. “My advice to upcoming actors is for them to be prepared to be in short films with new directors for free and be prepared to build relationships too. It takes time to make it.”
Elsubie Verlinden, a director at Just You Model and Artist Management, an agency that Matshikwe is signed to, said, “Matshikwe has the opportunity to showcase his talent abroad and hopefully get call backs. He is part of the Arts South Africa group which will also spend time at a workshop by the New York Film Academy in New York.
