In photos: Day 2 of Covid-19 national lockdown in Rosebank areas

ROSEBANK – Multiple suburbs in the area are adhering to the Covid-19 national lockdown.

It is now day two of the Covid-19 national lockdown and the streets of the Rosebank Killarney Gazette’s distribution areas are akin to a ghost town.

The aim of the lockdown is to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus with 1170 cases confirmed as of 27 March.

Today, (28 March), the Gazette’s journalist Sarah Koning took to the normally busy streets of Rosebank, Parkwood, Greenside and Houghton Estate to suss out the situation.

All seemed eerily quiet and empty as formerly bustling streets like Oxford Street were empty aside from one or two vehicles.

Sir Lionel Phillips Park in Greenside which is commonly filled with families and visitors using the gym equipment was uncharacteristically empty. This is a good sign, that community members are heeding the call of our President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Restaurants are closed on Jan Smuts Avenue and other roads once the hub of Saturday morning traffic are desolate.
