JCPZ takes steps to rehabilitate Frank Brown Park

MILPARK – Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has committed to take action to address complaints about the Frank Brown Park.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo have committed to take measures to improve the state of Frank Brown Park following complaints by Parktown West resident Philip Langenhoven.

The Rosebank Killarney Gazette wrote about the Milpark-based public park in Upkeep is needed [Week ending 13 March, 2020].

Langenhoven expressed his anger over the lack of security and the general disorderly state of the park.

He brought his concerns to the attention of the Gazette and the City Parks. One of his concerns was the fact that lights along the footpath to Milpark Hospital were not working, making it unsafe for nurses to travel along this route at night from transport drop-offs on Empire Road.

He was also angered by the abandonment of concrete structures at the park, which appeared to have the purpose of covering the storm water drain running through the park. Litter and the state of the wooden perimeter fencing were some of his other concerns.

Environment protection manager at City Parks Cebo Mhlongo reported that on 23 March, a JCPZ team visited the park for a site inspection.

Mhlongo instructed members from City Parks to remove concrete slabs and crush rock material at the park.

He also instructed members to rehabilitate the access road and grass seeding of eroded/ exposed patches as well as repair the fence at the park. “Broken and missing wooden bollards must be replaced and [the] fence restored,” said Mhlongo.

“We have confirmed that there is backfilling currently being undertaken at the [nearby] garage which doesn’t preclude JRA from removing the above and implementing the request urgently.”

Residents should remain aware that parks are closed until further notice in order to combat the spread of Covid-19.
