How to log issues with City Power, JRA and Joburg Water

WARD 87 – Community members can self-help regarding electricity, water and road issues by taking note of these tips from councillor Bridget Steer.

Residents in Ward 87 can use the following guide compiled by councillor Bridget Steer to log issues with City Power, Joburg Water and the Johannesburg Roads Agency.

Steer said residents can log all faults which include, power outages, streetlights, meter not working issues, securing a substation etc through the City Power mobile app or via the call centre.

Then community members can send a text or WhatsApp the info to the councillor in the following format in one message (no screengrabs please):

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact number
  • Reference number
  • Details of issue.

Residents can also log all water and sewer related issues, this includes leaks, bursts, missing water and sewer manhole covers through the call centre or by email and if it’s an emergency they can convey the information in the same format as above to the councillor.

Steer said if residents suspect they may have a water leak, then she suggests they close off all taps and then see if the meter moves. If it did, then they need to call their plumber as soon as possible. “Please log all potholes, stormwater, bridge, missing manhole covers in the road, skoffeling [weed/vegetation removal from traffic islands and pavements], road markings, traffic signs, and traffic light issues with Johannesburg Road Agency. Please always include very specific location details to assist the department,” said Steer.

She added that there is a limited budget for road resurfacing, so the focus is on the main arterial roads at the moment. “If you notice that your road is crumbling or cracking, please log in to try and get it patched to prevent any further deterioration.”
