‘I’m sorry’ is all that’s left after man allegedly kills partner and himself

MELROSE – Norwood police seek answers after a man allegedly shot his partner and himself at home.

On Sunday at about 12pm, Norwood patrol police van received a complaint of murder in progress in Somerville Avenue at Melrose.

According to spokesperson at Norwood Police Station, Sergeant Eric Masotsha, on the police’s arrival at the scene at the stated address, they were approached by security personnel who led them to the scene of the crime in that complex.

“The door was not locked from the kitchen. During police inspection, they found two bodies lying in a pool of blood on the floor in the kitchen; both bleeding on their heads due to gunshot wounds. A firearm was found lying under the left leg of the husband,” described Masotsha.

He went on to add that the deceased allegedly stayed together and it was only the two of them in the house. The deceased were later identified by a neighbour who promised to help police trace the pair’s next of kin.

Masotsha said the motive of the killings is still unknown but there was a written note on top of the fridge which said ‘I’m sorry’. “Unfortunately, we do not have any domestic disputes which have been reported on our domestic violence register from either one of them,” the spokesperson said.

An inquest for suicide and a murder were opened.

Anyone with information on what transpired between the two parties is requested to call Norwood Police Station at 011 483 4600/09.
