In tweets: Pink Day 3km walk to help fund cancer research at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

PARKTOWN – The Breast Care facility at Charlotte Maxeke is considered a 'centre of excellence' in the breast care field as the unit diagnoses 350 new breast cancer cases every year.

On Friday, 31 January, Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital staff and people in the surrounding areas, took to the streets and painted the Parktown area pink as they celebrated the Pink Day 3km walk.

The aim of the walk, in partnership with the hospital, is to raise breast cancer awareness. Marketing and communications manager for Central Gauteng Lions and Bizhub Highveld Lions, Wanele Mngomezulu tweeted that the walk started at 10am outside the main entrance of Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. It was a 3km walk around the hospital and then a visit to the wards.

Participants in the Pink Walk raised the SA flag high as the walk was also in anticipation of the cricket match between SA’s Proteas and ICC Cricket World Cup champions, England.
