Charlotte Maxeke Hospital delivers 26 new babies on Christmas Day

JOBURG – The babies were born healthy and one parent even shed a tear during a singing moment.

It was all joy at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Parktown when 26 newborn babies were delivered at Christmas Day, 25 December.

Of the 26 births, there are 12 males and 14 females. Eight were delivered by caesarian and 18 normal delivery the hospital said they were all healthy.

Lungiswa Mvumvu, the communications manager of the hospital said the first baby was born just after midnight adding that it marked a joyous moment for the parents and the medical staff as well.

“The baby was born 12.03am and the midwives were excited and welcomed her with a birthday song,” said Lungiswa.
“The mom had tears of joy… [after having] delivered a healthy baby. All babies born had special decorated cribs and each received a gift with the basic needs for their care.”

The hospital has congratulated the midwives for their dedicated work to the service and further wished them a Merry Christmas.
