Reach for A Dream keeps the dream rooms coming

PARKTOWN – The Reach for A Dream Foundation in collaboration with various other sponsors managed to have a fourth Dream Room launched at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.

The Reach for A Dream Foundation launched yet another Dream Room at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Parktown.

The project was achieved through contributions from various sponsors. Chairperson at Reach for A Dream, Mervyn Serebro said the Dream Room project was a prime example of how people who want to, can make a difference.

He thanked all the sponsors involved and said they aimed to have a lot more Dream Rooms. “We have great comfort in knowing that children who come here extremely ill are able to face life-threatening illnesses better because of such an environment. This is the most marvellous way to enrich the lives of children,” said Serebro.

Non-executive director at the foundation, Carla Da Silva thanked sponsors Air Mauritius and said they were their travel partners who also do great work within their charities. “It is all about collaborations and coming together. We should invest more in children’s health because they are our future,” Da Silva said.

She added that when one works with children every day, they grow to love them. When a life-threatening illness happens closer to home, it changes one’s life and makes them realise the importance of giving back even more.

Head of the Paediatric, Haematology and Oncology Unit at Charlotte Maxeke, Prof. Janet Poole said she had no idea the project would grow to be this massive when it was first launched. “We are happy with what the project turned out to be and it will be a great play area for the children as they wait to get better,” Poole said.

Andrew Stark from the Flight Centre Travel Group said, “It is not just about partners but about the heroes that look after the little ones and help to make a difference.”
