Support HospiceWits into 2020

HOUGHTON – Marketing manager for HospiceWits Leandi Streeter thanks community members for their support over the past year which has enabled them to care for over 5 600 patients and their families.

HospiceWits appeals for support from the community this festive season as they continue to serve over 5 600 patients suffering from life-threatening illness and their families each year.

Marketing and business development manager at HospiceWits Leandi Streeter reflected on a number of highlights at the organisation this year. The refurbishment of the Houghton-based in-patient unit has created a more beautiful and tranquil home away from home for patients and their families. The HospiceWits team has also received a number of letters of appreciation from the community. The HospiceWits team has also been piloting the re-opening of the Soweto-based in-patient unit due to the need in the community. The team is currently looking to raise funds to continue to serve 27 wards in Soweto.

“We would like to thank every member of our community from our dedicated staff who go above and beyond the call of duty, to every person who has ever supported a HospiceWits initiative by attending an event or making a donation,” said Streeter.

She said the tough economic situation for NPOs in South Africa has proved a challenge for the HospiceWits team this year.

“We support over 5 600 patients and their families per year and in order to continue offering this care and support, we need to raise at least R7 million by March 2020, ensuring we do not turn away anyone with a life-threatening illness, despite their financial situation.”

Community members are invited to support HospiceWits by becoming monthly contributors to their community of care for R100 per month. Businesses are also invited to support HospiceWits through their CSI projects. Bequests and trusts can also give annual or monthly donations of money, food parcels for the Soweto branch, pre-loved goods for the thrift shops and services to assist with property renovations. HospiceWits also welcomes any events organised to assist them with fundraising.
