PNRA looks forward to tackling the borer crisis, partnering with City Parks

PARKTOWN NORTH – PNRA chair Lee-Ann Louverdis reflects on the association's joys and challenges from 2019.

Parktown North Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (PNRA) chair Lee-Ann Louverdis said they have worked hard this year to forge a good working relationship with Joburg City Parks and Zoo to tackle the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) crisis.

“It has been an intense process to number, label and geo-log all trees in Parktown North, which has allowed us to monitor the PSHB infestation,” said Louverdis.

She also said that it has been challenging to monitor the Joburg Water projects in Parktown North this year including the 13th Avenue sewer upgrade and the 1st Avenue West high-pressure pipe upgrade.

The association also reflected on successes from the year including the Parktown North Security Scheme, which has resulted in a reduction in crime during 2019.

Walkway paving and the planting of a traffic island at the corner of 2nd and 12th Avenue in Parktown North has been another positive as well as the start of the association WhatsApp group, which Louverdis said has facilitated a direct and immediate channel for reliable and verified the information to be shared with the community.

She looks forward to the implementation of Vumacam, which she believes will ensure sustainable community safety.

“The PNRA is looking to expand its community so that we can better serve our residents. We welcome volunteers to step up and join us.”

The association looks forward to partnering with the City to manage the Parktown North Car Park as a community-centred space.

“We urge our residents to test their alarm systems and back-up batteries before they head off on holiday. We thank everyone who has steadfastly supported the PNRA, and look forward to growing our support base. We wish our residents, partners, neighbours and friends the happiest of holidays.”
