Give someone a boerewors roll on Heritage Day

GREENSIDE – Spread the love on Heritage Day by giving boerewors rolls to community members who are unable to enjoy a braai on the day.

With all the division taking place in our country at present, TV personality Mynie Steffens wants to tear down the barriers of class and spread some #BraaiLove on Heritage Day.

She has invited all community members to join the #WheelYourWeberMovement and give boerewors rolls to passersby on 24 September.

Steffens, who is known for her role on TV series Speel Met Vuur, said she wants to show love to people on Heritage Day.

“I think all South Africans deserve braaivleis on Heritage Day and what better way than handing out free boerie rolls,” said Steffens.

She said that after a co-worker showed her the horrific footage of the recent Joburg CBD attacks, she decided to do her bit to make a difference.

“After feeling mad, helpless and frustrated, I decided to channel those emotions into something positive. I realised I can’t change the government, but I can braai! I love to braai and nothing unites people more than sharing food together.”

Steffens initially wanted to walk down the street with a wheelbarrow braai, handing out boerewors rolls, but decided to go bigger thanks to the power of social media. She has so far received sponsorship from France, Amsterdam, Namibia and all over South Africa to hand out 250 boerewors rolls, but she secretly desires to reach the goal of 1 000 rolls on the day.

Community members are encouraged to show up in the park outside Pirates Club in Greenside between 11am and 3pm, near where the recyclers are, and lend a hand.

Locals are also encouraged to donate money, rolls, boerewors or braai skills on the day.

“I love the idea that Heritage Day is also known as Braai Day. Unfortunately, not all South Africans can enjoy the day with a choppie on the fire. South Africa has a lot of problems, but braai ain’t one of them,” said Steffens.
