Female victims of crime are encouraged to open cases at Parkview Police Station this Women’s Month

PARKVIEW – Police are being empowered to handle female victims of crime this Women's Month.

Constable Londiwe Vilakazi of the Parkview Police Station said she was proud to be a woman in blue who supported female victims of crime this Women’s Month.

Vilakazi works at the charge office and also attends to complaints and conducts patrols outside the station.

“I like to help community members. Women who come to the station to report cases of rape or domestic violence prefer to talk to me because I have empathy and can understand their situation,” said Vilakazi.

She believes that men in South Africa need to be educated about the laws around domestic violence and rape. ‘

“Men must learn to respect us because, without us, they are nothing,” she said.

Vilakazi mentioned an instance when she helped a victim of rape at Milpark hospital to open a case in February. “I made the rape victim feel comfortable and made sure that I got every point down so that I could make a strong case. I went and arrested the suspect who was identified by the victim.

“I like to fight for women’s rights and make sure that criminals are behind bars. Rapists will think twice before repeating offences.”

The spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “We have a number of programmes at the station where members are being empowered to handle female victims of crime. We are concerned about the crimes against women and children in our country. “Victims of rape are taken to the victim empowerment centre where they are treated with respect. If they share their story, we will ensure that the suspect is arrested.

Sibeko and Vilakazi encourage female victims of crime to come forward and report cases at the Parkview Police Station.
