Pirates hosts ex Springboks Pat Lambie and Stef Terblanche for lunch in aid of SA Guide Dogs Association

GREENSIDE – A sportsman's lunch in aid of the South African Guide-Dogs Association was a great success.

Pirates Sports Club in Greenside hosted ex-Springboks Stef Terblanche and Pat Lambie for a sportsman’s lunch in aid of the South African Guide-Dogs Association on 25 July.

Terblanche and Lambie provided the drawcard by way of a highly entertaining question-and-answer session, where they both shared some of their greatest achievements on the rugby field and what it means to wear the green and gold.

The event was held in honour of the late James Small. Director of rugby at Pirates Mark Marais paid tribute to the Springbok legend who inspired so many young players at the club.

Head of public relations for the Guide-Dogs Association Pieter van Niekerk, and his guide dog Shogun stole the show when van Niekerk discussed how his life changed while he was at university and he received his guide-dog friend.

It costs R100 000 to train a guide dog. Funds raised at the lunch and by the club over the next year will go towards the worthy cause of training a guide dog on request that the dog be named ‘Pirate’.
