Greenside Primary School lends ear to Sa’id da Costa Mathias

GREENSIDE – An anti-bullying campaign was initiated by a Grade 5 learner to help himself and other learners be able to speak openly about bullying.

Greenside Primary School hosted an anti-bullying campaign initiated by Grade 5 learner Sa’id da Costa Mathias. On 19 July Childline representatives came to give a very informative talk to learners during assembly in honour of Mandela Day.

Young Sa’id arranged a visit to the school by Childline, ordered ribbons for the campaign and also printed posters which were put up around the school.

Phakeme Mahlangu, a counsellor from Childline, gave a very informative talk explaining to the learners the different types of bullying that can take place and what they can do if they’re being bullied.

Nadia da Costa, mother of Sa’id said, “He was overwhelmed by the positive response from learners and parents regarding the campaign. He feels that the impact was made and we all hope that Greenside Primary will always be a safe space for our learners.”

Sa’id specifically chose the week of Mandela Day to launch the campaign in honour of the great legend and all the proceeds from the ribbons will be used to buy much- needed eco-benches for the school.
