Resident angered over unwalkable pavement on 7th Avenue, Parktown North
PARKTOWN NORTH – Pedestrian is angered over an unsafe area of the pavement on 7th Avenue, forcing him to walk on the busy road.
Parktown North resident Steve Kruger is angered by the lack of action by City Power to complete the installation of aluminium bundled cabling outside 21, 7th Avenue.
Kruger, who does not live at the property but regularly walks down this street said,
“The pavement outside number 21A has been unwalkable for eight weeks now. Since it is a very busy road, it is unsafe for pedestrians to walk on the street and many people walk with their dogs or prams, making it particularly dangerous.”
He also questioned the length of time it has taken for the project to be completed.
Despite logging a complaint with City Power weeks ago and emailing their CEO, Kruger has received no response.
By the time Kruger met with the Rosebank Killarney Gazette, some of the paving had already been reinstated by local residents.
Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck explained, “It is City Power who are installing aluminium bundled overhead cabling. They will reinstate when they are finished. Unfortunately, there will be disruptions like this all the time due to much-needed infrastructure upgrades.”
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena explained that the purpose of the project was to change service cabling feeding from the City Power box to the customer.
“The work is not complete. The contractor ordered some materials which he only got today [3 July], and will finish work by tomorrow [4 July]. The contractor indicated that he cornered off the area using a danger barrier of pit tape as required by internal processes and by-law. We don’t know what happened to it. Now that the contractor got the remaining material, they will tomorrow [4 July] continue with the remaining job, close trenches and reinstate paving.”
He went on to explain that the work is part of a larger project around the area which is expected to be completed next week [by Friday 12 July].
