The National Council of SPCA has released a statement to condemn the decision by the Johannesburg Zoo to ‘capture’ two new elephants into a ‘captive’ environment.
The NSPCA released a statement adding that are looking at legal options, “We wish to assure our supporters and fellow ellie lovers that we are exploring our options with our legal team for a way forward for these elephants. In spite of our legal communications to the Johannesburg Zoo, and enquiries with the permitting official, Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD), two elephants were relocated to the Johannesburg Zoo on 12 June 2019.”

NSPCA said they were informed by GDARD that Joburg Zoo had applied for permits to import two elephants on late 12 June.
The statement further read, “On the morning of 13 June – we received reports that the elephants were already at the zoo.”
NSPCA added that they believe that wild animals belong in the wild, “And will continue to fight for these animals.”
