Young ones make a big impression

PARKTOWN WEST – A blend of the elderly and young worked perfectly at Park Care Centre as The Ridge School learners filled the residents' day.

The Ridge School dedicated their time and efforts to the Park Care Centre in Parktown West. The centre is a residential facility that provides 24-hour care for the elderly, disabled or frail. The Ridge team entertained the residents by playing games and some competitive sports.

Parent and centenary committee member at The Ridge School Zola Makubalo said the purpose was to entertain and engage the residents, while they also participated.

“The learners got to do activities such as basketball, target throwing, as well as bowling. The elderly were served coffee or milo and biscuits by the young ones. They also got to do the egg and spoon race, with residents starting and then the parents and boys followed next. We had medals for them and sweet treats after they participated. Basically, everyone got to get something at the end of the day,” explained Makubalo.

She added that the Ridge families brought staff items that were requested by the home, such as toilet paper and soft biscuits. There were about 55 Ridge boys, and parents and siblings.
