The school jazz bands were given the opportunity to perform to an audience on a professional outdoor sound stage. Music teachers from Pridwin’s own music department also put together a set to entertain the audience.

Marketing manager at Pridwin Prep Demi-Rae Le Roux said, “The aim of the Pridwin Jazz Festival is not only to create a platform for young musicians to perform in a live environment but also to uplift and encourage communities where access to such opportunities is limited.”

Le Roux described the performance from Phela Re Phele Music Academy from Glenridge, Soweto, as one of the highlights of the day. The academy was established in 2013 to provide music lessons to children from age five to adults. They offer an Afrocentric performance-orientated music curriculum. Proceeds from the festival will go towards assisting them to purchase more instruments to reach as many young musicians as possible.
