Parktown Girls qualify to represent their district at Gauteng Inter District Chess Tournament

PARKVIEW – Chess players from Parktown Girls learned new strategies and gained worthwhile experience at the District 9 and 10 trials.

A young team of five chess players from Parktown High School for Girls participated in the individual District 9 and 10 trials recently.

Teacher in charge of chess at Parktown Girls Lauren Rorke said, “It was a truly great experience as we participated against our chess peers from various other more experienced schools. It was our first fully-fledged chess tournament and we were nervous but excited.”

Rorke said the team had a fun time bonding, learning new strategies and making new friends.

“The day ended with four of our five girls qualifying for the district team amidst tough competition.”

The learners who will represent District 9 and 10 at the Gauteng Inter-District tournament include Mogotladi Lamola (Grade 8), Munnira Katongole (Grade 10), Gadija Essop (Grade 11) and Chinyere Chukwuyem (Grade 10).
