Meet the man who conducts patrols and makes arrests in Parkview
PARKVIEW – Sergeant urges community members to be alert at all times.
Committed and hard-working Vispol shift worker Sergeant Ernest Mazibuko has served in the police for 14 years.
Mazibuko said he decided to join the police because he enjoys helping people and solving their problems.
His day-to-day tasks include much work out of the station and in the community. He conducts patrols, searches vehicles, suspicious people and properties and most importantly makes arrests.
“I enjoy conducting patrols and communicating with the community regarding policing,” said Mazibuko.
A difficult case he experienced took place in January 2017 when he arrested a man and detained him at the Parkview Police Station.
“We thought that he was successfully detained, but he escaped and fled to Zoo Lake, where we found that he had drowned in the lake,” said Mazibuko.
“After this incident, I thought I would lose my job and I was traumatised, but thanks to the counselling I received and the great work of management, I still serve in the police.”
He said that he enjoys working with the local community, who are eager to work with police to secure their area. “Support from the management at the station, members of the Parkview community and those I provide for at home keeps me going.”
Mazibuko warned residents to be alert at all times to prevent incidents from occurring. “Community members should make sure that all their windows are closed at night. They should also be alert to people who might follow them home and check if there are any suspicious people standing near their house, especially when pulling into their driveways.”
Spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko praised Mazibuko for his hard work and commitment to the task at hand. “He always shows up for duty, is neat, well-disciplined and represents the station well.”
