Learners share their thoughts on what should change in South African education #IMadeMyMark

PARKVIEW – What should change about schools in South Africa?

As South Africa prepares for elections, the Rosebank Killarney Gazette asked learners what they would change about the education system in South Africa if they were president. This is what they had to say …

LUCA KHAMBULE (Grade 7): I would get government officials to regularly monitor schools to prevent violence from teachers. I would also do a background check on all teachers and make sure that every child in the country is educated.

OKUHLE HLATSHWAYO (Grade 7): I would educate girls and boys about sexual harassment so that children will not fear going to schools where teachers abuse them. I would also only hire teachers who love children and not those who want to just put food on the table so that there is less violence.

KHADIJA CAJEE (Grade 3): I would make better schools that everyone can afford. I would also make playgrounds with lots of monkey bars (they are my favourite) and slides and sandpits.
JUNIOR MANAKAZA (Grade 6): I would upgrade all the rural schools in Limpopo and make sure that all schools are on the same level in terms of bathrooms, technology and curriculum. I would also cut down on tests and focus more on learning.
