Captain Mashigo says solving crime is in his blood

PARKVIEW – Meet the group commander in charge of economic crime at the Parkview Police Station.

Group Commander in charge of economic crime at the Parkview Police Station Captain Sidney Mashigo said it’s in his blood to solve crimes.

Having worked in the police service for 27 years, 14 of which were in Parkview, Mashigo said the Parkview community is very cooperative.

Mashigo’s work involves overseeing three members who work to investigate, trace and arrest suspects involved in housebreaking, theft out of motor vehicles, possession of stolen goods and drug possession.

“I was interested in becoming a police officer because there are a lot of crimes committed and I can help solve them,” said Mashigo.

He encourages any community members with information about crimes committed to report the information to the police so that an investigation can be carried out.

He said that the cases he undertook which received the longest sentence was in 2004 when hitmen were involved in killing four taxi drivers in Douglasdale.

“I got information from an informer about the happenings and then arrested one suspect who implicated three others. In the end, the four men were sentenced to 98 years in prison and an AK47 rifle was recovered.”

Spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “Captain Mashigo is committed and always willing to assist community members to resolve the challenges they face. He always goes to the crime scene to ensure that everything is done correctly and fingerprints are taken. He is an asset to the station.”
