Learn how to care for your trees to prevent shot-hole-borer infestation with LHRA

Following the success of a shot-hole-borer awareness walk hosted by the Lower Houghton Residents Association (LHRA) in February, Houghton resident Glenda Wheeler welcomes the public to join her on 6 April in learning more about how to care for trees in order to curb infestation.

Arborist Anton Moller will demonstrate how to correctly mulch, feed and water trees to restore their good health, since healthy trees are least likely to be infected by the infamous shot-hole borer.

Wheeler, who is part of the LHRA committee, said that eight trees on her property have been infected by the borer thus far. “They are infected, but not badly as yet.

“Before speaking to Anton, I believed that I was already caring for the trees correctly and appropriately but he pointed out a number of problems that must be addressed to bring about their recovery, which I thought he should share with other interested residents.

“The event will help residents to care for their trees to make them less susceptible to any pest or disease and, if infected, be best equipped to deal with the pest.”

Any interested members of the public are encouraged to come along and bring their friends and gardeners to learn more about tree care.

The event will begin at 2pm on 6 April, it will take place 22 Central Street, Houghton Estate.

Community members are encouraged to bring along their own fold-up garden chairs. Cold drinks and water will be provided.
