How to keep your home and yourself safe during wet weather

Wet weather can cause you more stress than necessary but these tips can help put your mind at ease.


The wet weather can be stressful to some, you might be at work wondering if your belongings are safe at your house, to thinking about how you will get home in the wet weather. 

Here are some tips for driving in wet weather:

  • Reduce your speed: The roads are wet and slippery, so it is common sense to slow down. There is no rush, it is better to be safe than sorry.
  • Keep your headlights on and check your brakes: When driving in wet weather, your headlights must be on to make visibility clearer and to alert other drivers. Make sure your brakes are in good condition so you can react fast to any situation that may occur.
  • Check the conditions of your brakes, windscreen and windscreen wipers and remain vigilant.
  • Put your seat belt on: Buckle up –you should always wear a seat belt, in wet and dry conditions.

Your house may be in danger of sustaining damage during heavy rainfalls, such as potential flooding.

This is how to keep your house safe in wet weather:

  • Inspect your gutters during the summer rainfall season check for any blockages and cracks.
  • Check the inside of your home for any suspected openings or cracks in the ceiling.
  • Trim and cut trees that can possibly cause problems, particularly those overhanging the walls.
